Out of the 20 finalists in the King of Style Video Qualifier contest, only 4 were invited to the 2009 King of Style event on November 21st in Stockholm, Sweden. Three out of the four selected riders are SCOTT USA Athletes. Ian Cosco, LJ Strenio and Nick Martini will be joining the other pre-qualified athletes at this years event.

This is where James Dorfling resides and grew up feeding his mountain biking skills with unique zones like Farwell Canyon and pinning it on trails like Aflo. Its hard to appreciate the big mountain slope lines we did out in Farwell, footage does little justice and to get to these lines was a gruling sandy hike; a bike worth 2 hours of your life for a 20 second decent! After spending some time in the puddle it became clear to me how James has become such an all round shredder... Wallisch and Ambuhl Podium in Barcelona

Last night in Barcelona, Spain SCOTT Team Members, Tom Wallisch (skis, poles, goggs) and Elias Ambuhl (poles, goggs) both made their way onto the podium in the downtown big air show. The night came down to a three jump final between Russ Henshaw, Tj Schiller, Tom Wallisch, and Elias Ambuhl. Riders needed to land two different tricks on three jumps and best two scores combined won. There was a little confusion when the scores were announced. The two scores showed Elias in second and Tom in third, however the scores were for the same trick which then moved Wallisch into second, and Elias took home third. Congrats to both riders on a job well done.

The Off Season with Alex Schlopy

Alex Schlopy is no stranger to the camera, he has been featured in movies by Teton Gravity Research, Warren Miller, Rage Films and more. Schlopy’s resume reads like a professional skier in their 20’s but he is just 17 years old. In addition to having his whole career ahead of him, Schlopy is still experiencing the joys of high school; girls, adolescence, fun, sports, homework. Wait a minute, HOMEWORK? That’s not fun, unless you get to share it with the world like this edit from Alex for his film class about his off season. Keep an eye out for Alex this winter on the Dew Tour and filming, he will be everywhere.

Les TEMPLIERS 2009 : Maud Giraud, la victoire d’un tempérament

C'est une course unique, une distance commune pour les garçons et pour les filles. Immédiatement, la course féminine a attisé la curiosité de toutes et tous. A Sauclières, Maud Giraud (Scott, Raidlight), leader du TTN (Trail Tour National) avait déjà pris une avance de 3 minutes sur Laurence Klein, déclarée adversaire n°1, sur une partie plutôt roulante du parcours. Une façon de mener la course à sa main, de se comporter en patronne. « Je n'ai pas de tactique. En fait cette année j'ai passé un cap. Je suis partie à mon rythme. Ce matin, j'étais sur un petit nuage, j'avais l'impression d‘avoir des ressorts sous les pieds. » Derrière Corinne Raux arrivait à ce premier ravitaillement avec 3m50s de débours, Anne Valéro et Aurélia Truel étaient pointées à 5m. Catherine Dubois suivait ce duo. Alors que Karine Herry, « Madame Templiers » avec 9 succès, était à 10'.

Maud Giraud s'envolait vers une première victoire aux Templiers. Un succès qui s'accompagne du titre de championne de France après ses succès sur le TNT : Je ne me voyais pas gagner les Templiers. C'est une course historique, une référence comme peut l'être pour l'Ultra, l'UTMB. J'ai géré le titre et je me disais que si je figurais sur le podium, ce serait bien. Mais bon j'ai réussi à concilier les deux. J'ai prouvé ici que je pouvais gagner sur du roulant aussi. J'ai gagné aussi le Trail de la Côte d'opale. Cette saison, j'ai passé un cap. »

Quel tempérament ! Maman de trois enfants, cette athlète de 32 ans est une fille de la montagne même si ses racines sont du côté de Douai dans le Nord « nous partons là-bas dès demain pour quelques jours de vacances. » Elle aime dialoguer, en course avec ses adversaires, surtout avec le public : « c'est vrai j'aime bien le contact humain, c'est ma façon d'être. Je remercie les gens qui m'encouragent, je parle tout le temps (rires). En même temps, si j'arrive à parler, c'est un peu mon repère, c'est que je suis bien. » Elle n'a pas subi la concurrence des marathoniennes venues sur son terrain. « On a dîné ensemble hier avec Corinne Raux et Laurence Klein. Moi, la concurrence m'attire et c'est bien de gagner devant des filles fortes. » Et Laurence Klein, la championne de France de marathon, de féliciter la championne de France du Trail (qui succède à Kenza Pedrero, 15ème aujourd'hui) : « elle mérite amplement son titre de championne de France, elle est incontournable. »

Martin Jensen 3rd at the Worlds

Triathlete Martin Jensen from Denmark finished in third place at the ITU Long Distance World Championship in Perth/Australia.

Over three km swimming, 80 km cycling and at least 20 km of running, it was very exciting until the end of the race.

The final classement was made in the last few meters of the running split. Martin was only beaten by Timothy O’Donnell (USA) and the second Sylvian Sudrie. His time was 3h 49min 34sec. He missed O'Donnells time only by 1min and 19sec.

The basis for his success was an extraordinary strong performance on the bike.
For sure the Scott Plasma Ltd helped him to pass the cycling course in a fantastic time.

Didn't see it coming

So I guess you can say that no one really sees these things coming. I mean, I saw the 24 hours of Moab coming. I was ready for it. Trained, rested and ready. I had my mom and friends to help me with my Scott bikes, with my food, my Niterider lights, clothes and moral support.

What I didn’t see was crashing on the second lap and getting a trip to the emergency room. There I was stitched up very nicely after Dr. Love (no joke I swear that was her name) made sure I hadn’t done any damage to my exposed bone. It was just impressive that she stitched up my knee, as it was not the cleanest cut.

So, now what do I do? I mean, I can’t get back on my bike. The whole knee bending thing and ripping out the stitches that I so happily just spent 2 hours in the ER getting put in, wasn’t really doing it for me. So we went back to the race to see what was going on. I had no idea what I was going to do since it was hard enough to walk around.

But there I was. Cheering on other friends that were racing. A first time solo rider Liz, was in need of some good lights and since I had the best and wasn’t going to be using them I loaned them to her. It worked out. Her way was brightly lit all night. Also, for one of the guys from Crested Butte, racing on a team. He used my backup lights. At this point I would have given my bikes to someone in need.

I have to say I didn’t see it coming that this was going to be one of the hardest things I would ever have to watch. I am so glad that I could be there, though, cheering on, helping out, and hopefully being helpful, but….it never got easier to watch without having some sadness that I could not, and was not racing. This is my race. I love it. It is at the end of the season, and I have set the world record for the distance ridden by a women in 24 hours at this race. Was I content and happy? Not really, but I love this sport and it was better to be there helping out with some expertise than feeling sorry for myself at home.

So, no I didn’t really see this coming, but since I can look back now, I am hoping that some good came out of it.

Let’s just hope that next year isn’t like this one. Thanks again for all your support. I would never have been there in the first place. Here’s to keeping the dream alive!!!

Ketchum, ID, October 29th, 2009 — After months of speculation, SCOTT USA would like to put the rumors to rest and announce that Tom Wallisch, the world’s #1 slopestyle skier and creator of the illest edits, is officially the newest member of the SCOTT International Ski Team. Wallisch is the first North American to be sponsored on SCOTT’s award winning skis. Wallisch will also represent SCOTT for goggles and ski poles.

“At just 22 years old, Tom has proven that he is a force in slopestyle and that he can throw down dominating movie segments,” comments Gabe Glosband, marketing director for SCOTT’s wintersport division. Wallisch’s resume is already stacked, he has appeared in numerous Level 1 Productions movies and has solid slopestyle competition results including victories at Dew Tour Northstar and the Dumont Cup. Tom was recognized as the #1 Ranked Slopestyle skier for 2008-09 season by the Association of Freeskiing Professionals. “Tom is the skier we wanted to be SCOTT’s first North American ski athlete. 132 victories in one season

The Columbia-HTC men's squad has completed the 2009 road racing season with more wins than any other ProTour team. Starting with Mick Rogers' [AUS] victory in the Australian National Time Trial Championships on January 8th and ending with Marco Pinotti's [ITA] first place in the Citta di Stressa time trial in Italy on October 18th, Columbia-HTC racked up 86 victories by 15 different riders.

Pinotti's victory came in the last race for Columbia-HTC this year, a season in which the men's and women's squads have taken a combined total of 132 victories by 21 different riders.

The 2009 victories saw Columbia-HTC riders take 17 Grand Tour stage wins, as well as the Milan-San Remo 'Monument'. Other highpoints of the season included Ghent-Wevelgem, Paris-Bourges and Eroica Classics, six stage wins in the Tour of Switzerland, seven national time trial championships titles, the US National road-race, and the final Green jersey - Columbia-HTC's first in a "Grand Tour - in the Vuelta a Espana. Columbia-HTC riders also secured overall victory in the Eneco Tour and multiple stage wins in the Tours of Britain, Missouri, Poland, Austria, Qatar, California, the Basque Country and Murcia in Spain, the Ster Elektrotoer in Holland, the Bayern Rundfahrt in Germany, the Tour of Romandie in Switzerland and the Three Days of De Panne in Belgium.

"2009 proved to be an outstanding year for Columbia-HTC," commented team owner Bob Stapleton. "We had ambitious goals with this international team of young riders, and we exceeded even our own expectations. Seventeen Grand Tour victories, wearing the green and white jerseys at the Tour de France and the Giro's maglia rosa, the gold leader's jersey at the Vuelta. These are fantastic accomplishments, but its the exemplary teamwork demonstrated by our athletes and staff that we are most proud of" "What makes me so pleased about this degree of success is that everybody got their chance and everybody took their chance," commented Columbia-HTC manager Rolf Aldag. "We did very well in 2008, but in 2009 what I'd highlight is the quality of the wins. Seventeen wins in major Tours, for example, is an amazing total. I can't say which victory was the most memorable, although watching the entire team pull away on stage three of the Tour and then Mark Cavendish sprinting across the line in first place was pretty impressive. In terms of the quality of wins, I'd just say it's almost impossible to get better on that level. In 2010 we'll be looking to see if our younger riders can confirm the faith we have in them. Guys like Tony Martin and all of new, young riders from the amateur ranks we're bringing in."
