Sven Riederer defends Swiss champion title

Sven Rieder defended his Swiss champion title at last Sunday’s VW Circuit race in Geneva. As the race was also part of the international European Cup and took place only two weeks before the World Championships, a lot of top international athletes showed up in Geneva.

After the swim, two athletes were in the lead and were followed by a group of athletes which included Sven. Pretty soon the leading couple was taken over by the chase group. At the first hill, six athletes, including Sven, could break away and gain a two minutes lead up to the second transition. On the second half of the run, Sven couldn’t follow the pace of Bevan Docherty any longer and also had to let Andrew Johns pass by and finished third overall.

Due to Sven’s hard training period of focus for the upcoming World Championships, Sven still felt a little bit tired in his legs and is very happy to have been able to defend his Swiss Champion title with his third place overall. With his Swiss champion title, Sven also won the overall ranking in the VW-circuit with one more race still to come.
