Scott skiers represent at Vermont Open

The Vermont Freeskiing Open was held at Stratton Mountain in Vermont March 23 – 27, 2005. Scott athletes Tim Russell, Angeli VanLaanen, and Tosh Peters all recorded podium finishes.

Proving himself following his Gravity Games Rail Jam gold, Tim Russell crushed the competition and won his second consecutive rail jam. After recording victory Friday in the rail jam, Russell came back Saturday and threw down for second place in the slopestyle. Russell is making a serious case for breakout athlete of the year.

Recent Scott team addition Angeli VanLaanen also stepped it up and recorded impressive finishes in both halfpipe and slopestyle. VanLaanen left no doubts, securing a first place finish in women’s superpipe. Her nearest competition finished 49 points off the pace. Angeli’s run consisted of a huge safety on the right wall, tail on the left, 540, alley-oop, tip grab, alley-oop 360, and switch air to finish. After her Saturday success, Angeli came back for more on Sunday and took third in the Slopestyle. Angeli had just barely been cleared to start skiing again after breaking her hand at the U.S. Freesking Open back in January. Welcome to the team Angeli!

Rounding out the string of podium finishes for Scott athletes was Tosh Peters. Tosh came out swinging, stomping a switch-up to backside 270 on the down-flat-down rail, securing second place in the rail jam.

According to Matt Harvey of Freeskier, ”the finals came, and along with them came the ballsiest, gnarliest rail session I have ever witnessed.” The setup was a site to behold - seven rails and boxes lined up beside each other with solid wood stairs filling in the gaps, leftover from the U.S. Open of Snowboarding held the week prior. From left to right, it went flat-down rail, flat-down box, down rail, flat-gap-down box, down-flat-down box, down-flat-down rail, and down-flat box. It was incredible, but also really gnarly.
