SCOTT USA Represents on the Freeskiing World Tour
From Whistler to Snowbird to Les Arcs, SCOTT USA athletes are crushing it on the World Tour.
First Stop, Whistler - During the 5th Annual Whistler/Blackcomb Canadian Freeskiing Championships, presented by Atomic and Powder Magazine, numerous SCOTT USA athletes made their presence known by earning top spots in the competition.
The competition was held over two days with each athlete receiving a total of two runs in Ruby Bowl and Diamond Bowl. These massive bowls are filled with cliffs, chutes, glades, steeps and other unusual features. The first day of competition was held on wind blown, rain hardened snow while the second day started early to beat an approaching storm that threatened to wreak havoc on the event. The snow gods were kind and held off until the competition ended.
Pierre- Yves LeBlanc of Whistler owned the mountain with an exceptionally controlled, fluid run with several big jumps and bomber speed. LeBlanc, sponsored by SCOTT USA and Atomic, achieved his goal of dominating a world tour event. In second place, local favorite and SCOTT USA athlete, Hugo Harrison, earned his ranking by skiing off cliffs and through crazy tight glades and chutes; all with ease and speed. To finish off the top three, SCOTT USA athlete Kevin Hjertaas of Sunshine Village came in third. Other SCOTT USA athletes finishing in the top ten were: Nathanael Fresnois of La Rosiere France finishing fifth, Ehren Olson of Mount Hood, Oregon finished sixth, Robin Courcelles of Whistler finished seventh, Jim Jack of Mission Ridge, Washington finished ninth, while Mike Tierney of Jackson Hole, Wyoming finished 10th to complete the top ten.
In the women's competition, Aleisha Cline, also sponsored with SCOTT USA finished third, narrowly defeated by now two-time champion Jennifer Ashton and Ingrid Backstrom who finished in second place.
Big Mountain Freeskiing is judged on a scale of 1-10 in five categories: line choice, control, technique, fluidity, and aggressiveness. The Canadian Championship is the first event of a 3-stop world tour.
