Joseba Beloki to ride SCOTT at the Vuelta

Givisiez, Switzerland, July 26th, 2004 - Joseba Beloki has signed to ride with the Scott-sponsored Saunier Duval-Prodir Pro Cycling Team for the remainder of the 2004 season and for 2005. Beloki will start riding for the team in August, and intends to do the Vuelta a España. Beloki finished second to Lance Armstrong in the 2002 Tour de France, and was riding in a very strong position last year before his tubeless tire came off, causing a serious crash that took him out of the 2003 Tour. He skipped the 2004 Tour de France due to lack of form and a contractual dispute with Brioches la Boulangère. Mauro Giannetti, Saunier Duval–Prodir team director, said, “We are very proud to have Joseba Beloki on our team for the future. We are currently ranked 10th in the 2004 UCI standings, and we now have a talented leader to take our team to the highest level in the future. We know that Joseba can return to his top form as he continues his recovery, and we expect to be a very strong team at this year’s Vuelta. We look forward to racing the 2005 Tour de France with a very strong team.” Scott Montgomery, General Manager of Scott USA bike group added, “This is perfect timing, it will certainly add more momentum to our launch in America. The Vuelta is the third biggest race on the 2004 calendar and we are excited to be a factor in this major tour.”

This summer, the Saunier Duval–Prodir team, riding the Scott CR1 Team Issue, will be racing in New York in August and at the T-Mobile Championships in San Francisco in September. A very limited number of the CR1 Team Issue bikes (MSRP $4799) are currently available at participating Scott retailers.
