Freeze Magazine's Parkasaurus III
A gaggle of pro athletes gathered where the beer flows like wine, a place where beautiful women instinctively flock like the swallows of Capistrano. I am talking about a little place called Big Bear Lake, California.
Representing SCOTT USA were our boys from up north, also known as the Canadian Contingency; Rex Thomas, Chris Turpin, and Mauro Nunez. From the mainland we had Mike Wilson, Dash Longe, Shawn Sullivan, Jaime Sundberg, and newest edition to the team, 15 year-old Chris Benchetler.
All four days of Parkasaurus were sunny and warm. It felt like a country club sauna. Throw some water on the rocks Winston! There was no need for any special additions to the usual badass Summit Terrain Park. The only difference was that the park and halfpipe were closed VIP style for the competition. In other words they were fluffed and puffed daily with no hackers.
T-Rex, who is still recovering from a broken foot acquired when he over-shot a hit and landed in the flats, was out sliding most of the rails and boosting largo in the halfpipe. Welcome back! Newly signed Billabong athlete Chris Turpin, along with Shawn Sullivan and Mike Wilson, were showing their dominance and style on day two in Ego-Trip Park. The boys launched the huge transfer gap so well I think Delta gave them Skymiles.
Mike Wilson upped everyone on the ten-foot trapezoid rail, also known as the Gate Keeper, when he stuck a frontside rail to an Alley Oop 270 off the backside. It was sick!
During the night session the boys were back in full action. Notably, little Chris Benchetler, who stepped up to the Freedom Rail, rode it like a circus pony, giddy-up! Mauro Nunez on the other hand chose a different route and repeatedly got bucked off but finally tamed the beast. Our girl, Jamie Sundberg, tweaked her knee in the halfpipe but should be back in action in no time.
On the other side of Parkasaurus lay the infamous Pussasaurus, the official proving grounds for "Industry Folk". This year it was a toss up as to who really won: Johnny West from O'Neill with his smooth rainbow rail slide, or SCOTT USA's poster boy and team manager Jonny A, with his patented 360-lose-a-shoe to internal bleeding. To be fair, the true rulers were Jason from Line Skis and Mike Gutt from K2. Kick his ass Seabass!
